Family Feud's Steve Harvey Hosts 3rd Annual Mentoring Weekend For 125 Young Men In Dallas During Father's Day Weekend
DALLAS, TX -- On June 16-19, 2011 in Dallas, comedian, best-selling author, top radio personality and Family Feud host Steve Harvey will host the 3rd Annual Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men. Â This transformative 4-day, 3-night weekend, created by Harvey, is designed to share and teach the principles of manhood and dream building to 125 teenage boys (fifty boys from the Dallas-area, sixty-five boys from around the country, and ten junior counselors), ages 13-18 who are without fathers in their lives. The weekend will welcome back ten boys from previous years to serve as junior counselors to help guide the new boys through the weekend.
The goal of the program is to break the misguided traits of manhood through frank talk, team-building activities and workshops led by educational supporters, entrepreneurs and other business and entertainment leaders including Dr. Steve Perry, Will Packer, John Hope Bryant, Terrence J, Stephen A. Smith, Lee Haney and more.
An interactive, intensive mentoring experience, the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men includes the You Can Be Me session on careers, Do-It-Yourself and music workshops, Looking Good & Feeling Healthy workshops, life opportunities workshop, chess challenge and sneaker design, Dream Hall and nightly Town Hall meetings with Harvey on Roles and Responsibilities of Men, and more. Â Exposing the boys to different mentors and environments complete with fitness, basketball, football, fishing and other team-building challenges on the ranch will inspire them to dream bigger and succeed on any path they choose.
Additionally there is a special program for parents and chaperones. The mission of the Steve Harvey Foundation Parent Program is to provide single mothers with the key principles of success needed in raising a young man, equipping mothers with the tools to become emotionally, financially and physically strong. These tools will impact their future relationships and increase self-esteem and self-image, thus empowering mothers who nurture and develop better sons and husbands, fathers and leaders in their communities. Harvey also plans to host regional Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekends in Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Charlotte later this year.
