Kurt Warner Compares Super Bowl Appearances on FOX Sports Radio

LOS ANGELES, January 27, 2008 - The Chris Myers & Steve Hartman Show welcomed Arizona Cardinals Super Bowl Quarterback Kurt Warner yesterday after he arrived in Tampa. Warner compared this Super Bowl trip with Arizona to the one with St. Louis. Below are highlights from the interview…

MYERS: "You're a guy with Super Bowl experience; share with us what you've brought on this journey or does it feel totally different for you?"

WARNER: "It definitely feels different. I think the one thing right now after being there and being a little older, you're really not in awe of the situation as much as you're enjoying it and sitting back and understanding the meaning of it. I think there were some times early, you're just in awe of the spectacle that it is. And maybe just because it's early, we haven't had media day yet, we haven't gone through the craziness that is the Super Bowl. At this point, it just seems like a road trip. Ready to get down here and ready to get to work."

HARTMAN: "From between the time of your last Super Bowl appearance, your thumb injury, the one and done with the Giants, was there a certain low point in that run where you thought you would never get it back?"

WARNER: "There was definitely some low points. I think the initial getting released by St. Louis was a low point. At some point there I thought I would finish my career there, so that was a low point. Then probably the last time I was benched here in Arizona, just from the standpoint of my age. And over the course of the last few years I was hoping to get another opportunity. Started the first year, and into the second year, then got benched. I really felt like I may not get another opportunity. Between those two points, were probably the two lowest points as far as football goes."

HARTMAN: "Nine years ago you were the Cinderella story, now you're the comeback kid. What is more satisfying for you, both experiences?"

WARNER: "Hard to say. Obviously the first one was so satisfying because it took so long to get there. I think the neat part was going to St. Louis, the year before we were 4-12, no expectations, not only for me but, for the team. And to go out and win the Super Bowl, was very gratifying. But I think there were a lot of similar circumstances this year. Nobody really gave us a chance, nobody gave me a chance, whether it be because of the down years, because of my age or whatever it was. So this one is pretty satisfying too. It's pretty exciting to be a part of two organizations that were going the other direction. And to be a part of turning that around and helping two teams get to the Super Bowl, it's pretty gratifying for me and I've enjoyed both runs as special and unique situations."
