Established in 2001, The Hoodie Awards were created by Steve Harvey to recognize the efforts and strides that the stars of our neighborhoods are making in the cities and towns in which they live. The superstar entertainer and New York Times best-selling author feels that although celebrities, politicians and corporate CEOs are typically lauded for their accomplishments, all too often the hard work of the "common" man and woman goes unnoticed. "I believe that we're all created equal and it's not fame or fortune that makes an ordinary person extraordinary, but it's the things they do to help others and to uplift their communities that makes them special," Harvey says. "And I am grateful that we're able to bring all of these famous people together to give these very special individuals the recognition that they deserve," he adds.
The one-of-a-kind awards show is the bedrock of a weekend full of celebrity-filled events and fun, all for a great purpose. Additional activities include the Hillshire Farm Freedom Friday Party (August 27th), the 5-hour Energy Midnight Comedy Jam hosted by Nephew Tommy (August 27th), and Fords VIP-Celebrity After Party (August 28th), as well as the Steve Harvey Charity Golf Tournament (August 29th) and the Charity Beach Party (August 29th), benefitting the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men.
The Steve Harvey Morning Show sponsored by Outback Steakhouse will also be broadcasting live from the Hoodie Awards Weekend on Friday, August 27th and Monday, August 30th.
In addition to Presenting Sponsor Ford, the 2010 Hoodie Awards are being made possible with the gracious support of Glory Foods, Hillshire Farm, The Home Depot, Kodak, Wells Fargo, Budget Rent-A-Car, the National Education Association, Outback Steakhouse, 5-hour Energy, Prudential, State Farm Insurance, Soft Sheen-Carson/Magic Shave, AT&T and The Nielsen Company.
